Washing our hair can be one of the things we simply fit into the day. We turn on the water, reach for shampoo and are already thinking about what comes next. Sometimes, though, we can give that same moment a little more space. Set out a towel. Put down the phone. Notice what we are doing.
The idea of calm is close to Patéa. It reminds us of the coast near the town of Patea: space, a slower pace and a moment when nothing has to happen straight away. We want to bring something of that feeling into everyday care at home.
A ritual can therefore begin very simply. It does not have to look like a photograph. You decide what form it takes.
Attention belongs to the care itself, too
Alongside that feeling, there is a place for choosing products and understanding their role. At Patéa, we distinguish between the scalp and the lengths of the hair. We look at where a particular product belongs and how it is used.
That means pausing over things that may seem similar at first. Conditioner, a mask and leave-in care are not three names for the same step. Each product has its own instructions. For one, rinsing matters; for another, it is where you apply it or how often you use it.
When choosing a product, it can help to ask: what role should it have in the care I already use? Look for the answer in its specific description and instructions. If something is unclear, it is reasonable to ask.
Seeing the steps together
We call this approach System-Led Care. We also present products as rituals to make their relationships easier to understand. In one place, you can see which products belong to a collection, then look at each one in detail.
A ritual is not an instruction to use every product at every wash. Pre-wash care, a mask and a leave-in product each have their own guidance. Their presence in a set does not, by itself, tell you how often to use them.
The overview is there to help you find your way. How you use a product still depends on its own instructions and the care you have chosen.
River Clarity: three Scalp Balance products
The River Clarity ritual includes Scalp Balance Detox Scrub, Scalp Balance Shampoo and Scalp Balance Conditioner.
The scrub is a pre-wash step. The shampoo cleanses, and the conditioner follows with conditioning care. With the scrub in particular, it is useful to pay attention to its own instructions and frequency of use. It is not automatically the start of every wash day.
The three products together show how the collection fits together. The information for each product will help you understand their differences.
Woven Strength: a look at the Repair collection
Woven Strength brings together four products from the Repair collection: Repair Care Shampoo, Repair Care Conditioner, Repair & Protect Nourishing Mask and Repair Mist.
The Patéa catalogue describes the collection as care for stressed lengths, for example after colouring or heat styling. Alongside cleansing and conditioning, it includes a mask and a leave-in spray.
The difference in how these two products are used is particularly important. Repair Mist is leave-in care. The mask cannot be used according to the spray's instructions, or simply on the assumption that both products belong to the same set. Before using a product for the first time, always read its current instructions.
Room for a question
Finding your way through hair care sometimes means asking one ordinary question. Where should I apply this product? Is it leave-in? What is the difference between two steps in the same collection?
If you would like to clarify something about a Patéa product, send our team its name and your question. We can then talk about the specific point that interests you. A description of a ritual is not meant to replace individual clarification where it is needed.
Once your care makes sense to you, you can shape its everyday rhythm in your own way again. With a towel you love, in silence or with music. With space for yourself and attention to what you are using.
